Certified
Aromatherapist - No form of aromatherapy "certification"
is recognized in the USA
The
term "Certified Aromatherapist" or "Master
Certified Aromatherapist" is currently being
used as a selling tool to market a product and/or
service and does not mean that the individual has
been certified.
It
simply means they have received a certificate upon
finishing the given parameters of the course. These
courses can be taken by anyone, are not taught by
State or Government Regulated school and cost a few
hundred dollars.
Most
people practicing aromatherapy call themselves aromatherapists,
however this does not make any of them certified.
They simply hold a certificate showing that they finished
a course. Claims such as being a Master
Certified Aromatherapist
is nothing but a marketing gimmick.
Currently
no form of aromatherapy "certification"
is recognized in the USA and aromatherapy is not regulated
by any governmental body. Always feel free to ask
someone's credentials issued by a state or federal
government (Masters e.g..,Master Aromaterapist, Ph.D.,
DVM), if they are offering/selling medical advice,
offering consultations and/or treatments. When in
doubt always turn to your State or Federal Government
for accurate answers. Below are two federal agencies
which you can contact for further info.
